The annual Walk for Life activity of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas started in 2017. It is a manifestation of the organization’s strong advocacy for the sacredness of every human life, from conception to natural death, and of our shared mission to defend, protect, and promote this priceless gift from God.
This year, 2026, marked a meaningful milestone as LAIKO held its first Lenten season Walk for Life, themed “Walk for Life, Walk for Unity as One Nation,” bringing together around 3,000 participants from various lay organizations and movements within the historic walls of Intramuros, fostering a collective sense of purpose.
The activity, spearheaded by the Couple for Christ, began with a program at the Baluarte Plano Luneta de Sta. Isabel, Intramuros, followed by a meditative Stations of the Cross, combined with praying the Holy Rosary, emphasizing community prayer and deepening spiritual reflection.
In every station dedicated to a special intention asking for God’s mercy and compassion on the realities of injustice, violence, and falsehood, there was a reading of a gospel text, followed shortly by a reflection and prayer.
Before the mass, a heartfelt sharing by Jorge and Chi Bocobo and their son, Santiago Rafael Datu Bocobo, highlighted how their son, diagnosed with SMA Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2, received God’s gift of healing and the unwavering support from groups and individuals, inspiring faith and hope among attendees.
Overall, the event concluded with a profound Eucharistic celebration at Manila Cathedral, presided over by His Eminence Jose Cardinal Advincula, Jr., D.D., Archbishop of Manila, co-celebrants His Eminence Pablo Virgilio S. Cardinal David, D.D., Bishop of Caloocan and His Excellency Most Rev. Severo C. Caermare, D.D., Bishop of Dipolog and Chairman, CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity and four other members of the clergy.
