The reliquary for the canonisation of Pier Giorgio Frassati is a jewel box that contains a fragment of clothing worn by this young man who made his life a joyful testimony of faith in Christ.
“To the top” is the synthesis of his intense life and the leitmotif of the reliquary’s iconography.
The Rosary crown marks the way in a rope team towards Christ in the Eucharist at the top of the mountain, where Pier Giorgio precedes and leads his friends and the poor.
The constant presence of Mary in his life is depicted with the image of Our Lady of Oropa, a shrine he frequently visited for long periods of prayer.
The letters of St Paul, which he always carried with him as his precious vademecum to draw light and strength from, are also present.
Eight lapislazuli stones commemorate him as the “man of the beatitudes”.
The alabaster base and the display case inlaid with edelweiss, containing the relic, commemorate the snow-capped peaks and his love for the beauty of the mountains.
The artistic work is an original creation by Sister Maria Agar Loche, Pious Disciple of the Divine Master (PDDM).
